High school junior, Katherine Torres a Nicaraguan-American sat down with IDIF to talk about her journey to discovering what her Latinidad means to her and the journey to accepting it! Born of two Nicaraguan immigrants, we asked Katherine what storytelling meant to her, she says, " I think it is important to share our stories and lift our voices, so that we can let others know that they are not alone."

"It is important to amplify the voices of marginalized communities and empower our communities to speak out and share the beauty and the pain. Storytelling is a form of activism. Looking back at my young impressionable self, I wish I could’ve told her that no one can ever take your culture away from you and no one should ever keep you from being proud of where you come from. You come from love, hard work, and faith. Be proud!"
